Academic Standing and Continued Enrollment

Continued enrollment at Moscow University Touro is dependent upon a student's ability to maintain satisfactory academic progress toward attaining a degree as measured by the cumulative Grade Point Average and conduct while on university property. To assist students in maintaining satisfactory progress, Moscow University Touro has adopted academic standards designed to provide early identification of students who are experiencing academic difficulty and require timely intervention.

Grade Points

The University keeps a complete record of each studentґs work. The academic achievement of a student in a specific course is expressed by letters (with the equivalent Grade Point) as follows:

  • A = Superior (4.0)
  • B = Good (3.0)
  • C = Average (2.0)
  • D = Passing (1.0)
  • F = Failed (0.0)
  • T = Incomplete (appears as a prefix)
  • P = Passed (for English as a Second Language or Pre-Calculus exemption)
  • W = Withdrawal (No penalty)
  • + = +.333 (Not applicable for A+)
  • - = -.333

Grading Scale

While each professor may choose a particular scale to convert numbered results into grades, the University follows generally the following scheme:

  • 95-100 A
  • 90-95 A-
  • 87-89 B+
  • 84-86 B
  • 80-83 B-
  • 76-79 C+
  • 72-75 C
  • 68-71 C-
  • 65-67 D+
  • 62-64 D
  • 60-61 D-
  • 0-59 F

Grade Point Average

The university calendar is based on the semester system. The Unit of Credit is the credit hour. A studentґs Grade Point Average (GPA) for any period is computed by dividing the number of “quality points” by the number of course credits completed.

For example:
4 credits B- 4 x 2.666 = 10.664
3 credits A- 3 x 3.666 = 10.998
3 credits B- 3 x 2.666 = 7.998
3 credits C+ 3 x 2.333 = 6.999
3 credits C- 3 x 1.666 = 4.998
3 credits W (not averaged)
Total Grade points = 41.657
Total credits completed = 16
41.657 points divided by 16 credits = 2.604.
Rounded to two places, the GPA is 2.60

Good Academic Standing

In order to maintain good academic standing a student must demonstrate satisfactory progress toward completing his/her degree. All students are required to maintain a semester and cumulative Grade Point Average of at least 2.0 overall and of at least 2.3 in required Business & Management courses at all times. Students who fail to maintain the 2.0 cumulative grade average will be placed on academic probation and are subject to dismissal.

Student Academic Excellence

Moscow University Touro recognizes outstanding students who achieve a Grade Point Average of 3.8 for 15 consecutive credits (a half year of full time study) and maintain an exemplary record of ethical conduct. The names of those designated as Honors Students are publicized by the University. The selection of Ho*nors Students is made by a committee appointed by the Rector. The Dean of Studentґs administers the program.

To achieve the annual Deanґs List, a student must complete at least 30 consecutive credits (one year of full time study) with a Grade Point Average of 4.0. Nominations are made by the Dean of Students at the end of the academic year, followed by selection committee consideration and a public presentation ceremony in which the Rector announces the winners and presents each winning student with an official certificate of accomplishment

Grade of Incomplete

A tentative grade of TC- to TF is given at the discretion of the instructor when a student has not completed a required assignment or examination. Students will not receive credit for work which has not been completed. Therefore, when determining a tentative grade, the incomplete work is graded as F. Example: a student who has done work all semester, but does not submit a required paper, might receive a tentative grade of TD. If the work is not completed the tentative grade of TD becomes a final grade of D.

Tentative Fall grades become final on the last day of the sixth week of the following Spring Semester. Tentative Spring and Summer grades become final on the last day of the sixth week of the following Fall semester.

Academic Probation

Academic probation is an indication of serious academic difficulty and applies whenever a studentґs cumulative grade point average falls below 2.0. Students on academic probation may continue enrollment. However, they are required to devise a written strategy for improving their academic performance, present the strategy to the Dean of Students and the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, and confer regularly with the Dean of Students who will review their academic progress and, in consultation with the Registrarґs Office and other university officials as appropriate, determine a course load satisfactory to academic achievement.

Academic Suspension

Where academic performance is persistently unsatisfactory, the University may choose to suspend a student who would be ineligible for continued enrollment at the university. If there exists documented extenuating circumstances associated with the academic deficiency, a student may choose to make a written appeal to the universityґs Enrollment Selection Committee for reinstatement. The Enrollment Selection Committee and the Rector will make the final determination on re-admittance.

Transfer of Credits from Other Institutions

Students who have completed courses at other institutions should present transcripts and course descriptions to the Registrar´s Office. An equivalence to course credits at Moscow University Touro will be determined subject to Touro College transfer credit policy and, if justified, transfer credits accordingly to the student. This process may take several months. In some cases, it may be necessary for the student to take a placement examination before Moscow University Touro transfer credits are granted. In principle, transfer credits are not included in the GPA.

Confidentiality of Academic Records

The transcript of a studentґs permanent academic course record is released by the Registrarґs Office only upon the written request of the student or former student. The transcript is the official record of grades earned to date and includes the date of graduation, degree received, and date of course withdrawal or dismissal from the university. When examination results or final grades are posted, only the studentґs registration number is indicated and not the studentґs name.
